Bryan Singer has leaked news on the potential villain for the sequel to Superman Returns. All signs point to General Zod. Singer says he intends to recast the part with an unknown actor, though rumors persist that the studio is favoring Jude Law for the role. The capacity General Zod will play in the sequel is so far unknown. Whether he will be the lead villain or not, and how big a role Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor will play, is also up for debate.

1The cast sometimes tends to confuse viewers, especially longtime fans. Remember the speculations that Smallville’s Jor-El was actually General Zod because he’s voiced by Terence Stamp (pictured, above as Superman I and II’s General Zod)?
James Marsden in Superman Returns made me think Cyclops!
James Marsters in Smallville, well, Spike!
Good choice with use of unknown actors.
I just hope Brandon Routh doesn’t get typecast as Superman.
Heheh.

2I wish Bryan Singer would make his own movie. We GET it … he loved Superman. And Chris Reeves. I suppose a lot of gay guys loved Chris Reeves – get over it and make Superman your vision, not Donner’s or Lester’s or whichever Supes 2 he is going to homage this time.

3Yeah, it’s almost like he’s trying to remake the old Christopher Reeves films. Singer’s first Superman flick revolved around Luthor’s plot to sink a portion of the United States…again. Now his next flick is going to feature Superman fighting Zod…again!? C’mon, I just wanna see Brainiac or Metallo or even Bizarro. A little variety would be nice. Still, this news is in the really really early stages, so it’s still subject to change at the drop of a hat.

4Gimme Doomsday … really the only guy that can tussle with Superman.

5It will take a really long time for Superman to fight Doomsday, first he must evolve from a shy geek reporter to a macho man playboy reporter with over-sized muscles.

6So, what will the sequel be called? Superman returns … again?

7I think it will be Superman: Zodd Returns ;)

8Well, the sequel to Batman Begins will be called “The Dark Knight”, so maybe they’ll continue that line of thinking and try “The Man of Steel” or something. Though, personally, I would have gone with “Superman 2: Lois is a Lysing Whore”. But that’s just me.
