Ever since DiC managed to pry their cartoons out of Disney’s slimey paws, they’ve been releasing one quality set after another. Well, the trend continues for all you children of the NES, as Captain N: the Game Master comes to DVD on February 13th, 2007!

For those of you who don’t remember, Captain N chronicled the adventures of Kevin Keen, a teenager who was sucked into his NES so that he could use his game-playing prowess to save the Video World. The show featured Simon Belmont (Castlevania), Pitt (Kid Icarus) and Megaman as supporting heroes, with King Hippo (Punch-Out), the Eggplant Wizard (Kid Icarus), Dr. Wily (Megaman) and Mother Brain (Metroid) as the main villains. Every episode featured the cast going into a different NES game, like Donkey Kong or even Tetris, to thwart the villain’s schemes.

The show was written in America and animated in Japan, like most cartoons back in the day. Many people remember Captain N for the bizarre adaptations of the video game characters. For instance, Simon Belmont was a blonde fop, while Megaman was a green midget with a nerve-grating voice. The show also crossed-over with other DiC-produced Nintendo cartoons, such as Super Mario Bros and the Legend of Zelda.
