I am really hoping that a large group of optical drive manufacturers will get their heads out of their respective behinds and realize that combo drives are really the only things that the mass market wants. We don’t want to run into the issue that when we bring our HD DVD disc over to a friends place that it won’t play because they invested in a Blu-ray drive, that’s rediculous, but now it seems Pioneer denies that they have plans to create a combo Blu-ray/HD DVD burner.

“Currently we have no plans to do so….. however, Pioneer will monitor the market situation with other formats and will consider to adopt those formats as and where the market is demanding it”.

This whole thing is rediculous. Does Pioneer and other companies not want my money? Because the first company to make and promote a great combo drive will probably be the first to start raking in some serious next-generation optical bucks.
