Over at our sister site, the Apple Gazette, Michael wonders whether DIGG has started to become biased against Apple-related stories. He has observed that while it previously only took about 30 DIGGs (that is positive “votes” by DIGG users) in an upcoming story in the Apple topic to be brought to the DIGG front page, it now seems to require more. Digg.com appears to have made a change that makes it more difficult (i.e. requires more âdiggsâ) for Apple related stories to make it to the front page of the social news site. Is this just for Apple related stories, or is it an across the board change in Diggâs Read more »

How to save a wet cell phone
WikiHow made a nice article today explaining how you can possibly save a wet cellphone by following a few simple steps. Here are the first, and most important, steps that will help to determine how good the chances are for your cellphone to survive: Remove the Battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don’t take time to think about it, electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it. Dry your Phone. Obviously you need to remove as much of the water as soon as you can to prevent it from getting into the phone. Use a towel Read more »
Second Generation iPod Shuffle now Shipping
According to MacRumors, the second generation of the very popular screen-less DAP is now shipping. According to multiple sources, orders placed early for Apple’s 2G iPod Shuffle are beginning to ship from factories in China. Many Apple news sites, are referring to this new player as “2G iPod Shuffle”, but be warned that the 2G stands for “Second Generation”, and not 2 Gigabytes of capacity. The player only has 1 Gigabyte of capacity (not that anyone is complaining, at least from what I read). Read more »
Windows XP Embedded soon to be USB bootable
In case you don’t know what Windows XP Embedded is, it’s basically a different build of Windows XP (yes, yet another one) that is used mostly for: OEMs, ISVs and IHVs Next month, when the (inhale now) Windows XP Embedded SP2 Feature Pack 2007 is released, among other features, it will add USB support. Which means that you’ll be able to boot Windows XP from any USB 2.0 flash drive (with enough capacity, of course). I wonder if new Windows viruses will start appearing that “damage” flash-drives (that includes iPods). Read more »
Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness
First, Ash (of the Evil Dead trilogy) fought Herbert West: Re-Animator. Then, he was pitted against the Vampire King himself, Dracula. Next, he teamed up with Sam Raimi’s cult classic anti-hero, Darkman. So, what other horror franchise could Ash possibly crossover with next? The freakin’ Marvel Zombies. Didn’t see that one coming. For those unaware, the Marvel “Zombieverse” is an alternate reality where nearly all the heroes and villains of the Marvel unvierse were stricken with a virus that transformed them into flesh-eating zombies. The Marvel Zombies debuted in Ultimate Fantastic Four #24, and then in their own best-selling miniseries, aptly titled “Marvel Zombies”. Well, taking place as a prequel Read more »
Google Acquires Jotspot. Full Office Suite to Come?
I just got an email from Jotspot (I have an account with them, which I actively used before). They have just announced they have recently been acquired by Google. No details are out yet on how much and in what form the acquisition would be. But here’s what founder Joe Kraus had to say. As we built the business over the past three years Google consistently attracted our attention. We watched them acquire Writely, and launch Google Groups, Google Spreadsheets and Google Apps for Your Domain. It was pretty apparent that Google shared our vision for how groups of people can create, manage and share information online. Then when we Read more »
New 'Street Fighter' film on the way
It’s been 12 years since the last attempt at a Street Fighter film based on the classic Capcom 2D fighter. You all may possibly remember it as the ill-conceived Jean Claude VanDamme vehicle co-starring Kylie Minogue and Raoul Julia. Well, they’re at it again. Variety is reporting that Hyde Park Entertainment is teaming up with Capcom to produce yet another feature film. The film will be produced as a joint venture between the two companies, with Capcom keeping the creative process on a much tighter leash than back in the 90′s. With any luck, this might turn out as good as the American comic book series being produced by Udon Read more »
Mtv Oddities presents The Maxx – Review
One of the strongest and most intelligent works of animation to come from American shores, and from Mtv, no less. The Maxx remains one of the best comic books I’ve ever read and one of the best cartoons I’ve ever watched. If you recall the show, then perhaps you’d like to stroll down memory lane. And if you have never had the pleasure of watching it, then perhaps you’d like to learn some more. Check out my full retrospective, Right Here! The Maxx: the animated series, run during Mtvâs âOdditiesâ block (along with âThe Headâ) was pretty much the Maxx comic book brought to vivid life, panel-for-panel. The cartoon so Read more »
Microsoft unveils Windows Vista and Office 2007 packages
I guess it’s a small news day when some item packages reach the “front page”. In any case, Microsoft has just unveiled the packages for their upcoming (un?)popular Operative System and productivity suite. In terms of color, for the Windows versions, they will be similar to what the current Windows XP colors are: Green for the Home editions and blue for the Professional editions (in Vista, the Professional editions will be known as Business editions instead). I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t revamp the Office Logo a bit more. Since the difference between it’s current version and the next is so great, I think that it deserved a more Read more »
What does Google think of you?
An interesting link showed up on the Digg frontpage today. Googlism.com attempts to determine what Google thinks of a certain name or term you put in. Sadly, Google doesn’t seem to know what ForeverGeek is yet: Sorry, Google doesn’t know enough about forevergeek yet. Even though we do appear at the top of certain search terms… What does Google think of you? Read more »
