Apple recently paid for a test to be done on how larger monitors effect productivity, and their results are in. It looks like bigger monitors, or going dual-screen make a more productive person.
Pfeifferâs testing showed time savings of 13.63 seconds when moving files between folders using the larger screen â 15.7 seconds compared to 29.3 seconds on the 17-in. monitor â for a productivity gain of 46.45 percent. The testing showed a 65.09 percent productivity gain when dragging and dropping between images â a task that took 6.4 seconds on the larger monitor compared to 18.3 seconds using the smaller screen. And cutting and pasting cells from Excel spreadsheets resulted in a 51.31 percent productivity gain â a task that took 20.7 seconds on the larger monitor versus 42.6 seconds on the smaller screen.
It is a little of a “well duh” for me, as I use two, sometimes three monitors during my daily work routine, and I know for a fact that going back to using the single monitor on my laptop sometimes drives me nuts.

1Even though I can (and should) use two monitors when working, my laptop’s and my LCD, I’ve gotten so use to tabbing through my applications, and my applications’ tabs that it no longer makes such a big difference to me.
