Imagine, that in a near future with multiple core processors that a current spike hits your PC and breaks it down. Imagine that instead of having to pump a bucket of money for a new processor, it simply repaired itself by redirecting the data processing from the broken parts of the circuit to the working ones.

No, I’m not talking about nano-technology, but still, an ingenious discovery by IBM.

“Basically, with this technology, you can build self-repairing circuits,” she said. “You can actually do repairs in the field, since all the technology to burn the fuse is right on the chip.”

I doubt we’ll see chips completely repairing themselves anytime soon however, I’d be glad if this meant that our hardware would gracefully degrade instead of just burning out completely from one moment to another.
