If you’re one of the millions of Nintendo DS owners, and you have an interest for homebrews, or running backups on your Nintendo DS you’ve certainly heard of the DS-Xtreme card by now. If you haven’t, I’ll give you a small view of what the current Nintendo DS Homebrew scene is like.

If you were to try and run homebrew applications, or game backups with your DS right now, you’d have to buy at least 3 devices. One to boot the homebrews, one to store the homebrews and one to link the storage device to your PC. Tech support is virtually none (you’re restricted to user forums). In short: it’s a mess. It’s even messier than the PSP scene.

With this device, all those issues end. As for the first time, a single disk with 512mb capacity allows you to play music, homebrew apps and games effortlessly by just plugging the card (through a USB plug) onto your PC and dragging and dropping the files you want.

It costs $125, it will be available in a couple of weeks, and it is certainly on my Christmas shopping list, together with one of those nice Nintendo DS Lite. And if you own a Nintendo DS, I recommend you get one of these yourself.
