DailyTech got some info from Scott Graff, Microsoft’s program manager for IE7 compatibility in which he says that the new version of the browser will come this month, beating Firefox 2.0’s RC3 which is scheduled for a November release. He says:
The final release of IE7 is fast approaching ⊠and I mean really fast ⊠and will be delivered to customers via Automatic Updates a few weeks after itâs available for download. We want to ensure that you are ready and the information below will help get you there. Compatibility with sites, extensions and applications has been a very high priority for us as we develop new features, enhance the existing features and move the platform forward to be more secure and standards compliant. We are continually listening to feedback from our customers, partners and leaders in the industry to resolve major compatibility issues to ensure our common customers have a great experience with IE7.
Even though it is true that the IE7 did listen to what some of the developers and users wanted, don’t think that just because it’s a new release it will support all the standard compliant rules of CSS and HTML. But at least it’s a start.
Even though many people will disagree with me, in my opinion, I think that IE7 has a better presentation than the current Firefox 2.0 Release Candidates. With the exception of some slight cosmetic changes, the update from 1.5 to 2.0 isn’t as impressive as the one from Internet Explorer 6 to 7. With that in mind, will Firefox continue to dig upon Internet Explorer’s share, or will the new version attract those that migrated to Firefox back into using it.
Regardless of the result, my browser of choice is, and will continue to be Firefox, however, I fear that many of those people I’ve been convincing to use Firefox for the last few months will go back to Internet Explorer once they see how “shinny” it is.
