One of the strongest and most intelligent works of animation to come from American shores, and from Mtv, no less. The Maxx remains one of the best comic books I’ve ever read and one of the best cartoons I’ve ever watched. If you recall the show, then perhaps you’d like to stroll down memory lane. And if you have never had the pleasure of watching it, then perhaps you’d like to learn some more.

The Maxx: the animated series, run during Mtvâs âOdditiesâ block (along with âThe Headâ) was pretty much the Maxx comic book brought to vivid life, panel-for-panel. The cartoon so strictly adhered to the source material that it even went so far as to use actual artwork taken directly from the book itself, using various animation techniques to breath life into the static art. Indeed, the only moments in which the cartoon compromised accuracy was in situations involving copyright issues (like cameos from Pitt or the Savage Dragon and Mako) or where moments of additional humor were needed.

2Outside of bootlegs on eBay, nowhere, I’m afraid. There was a VHS officially released by Mtv some years back, but it’s terrible. It takes all 13 episodes and edits them to fit 2 hours; you lose a LOT of content.
