It’s been 12 years since the last attempt at a Street Fighter film based on the classic Capcom 2D fighter. You all may possibly remember it as the ill-conceived Jean Claude VanDamme vehicle co-starring Kylie Minogue and Raoul Julia.

Well, they’re at it again. Variety is reporting that Hyde Park Entertainment is teaming up with Capcom to produce yet another feature film. The film will be produced as a joint venture between the two companies, with Capcom keeping the creative process on a much tighter leash than back in the 90’s. With any luck, this might turn out as good as the American comic book series being produced by Udon Studios.

The script for the upcoming film is being written by Justin Marks, who has also been tapped to write the script for the upcoming live action ‘Voltron’ film. Not much has been revealed about the plot, though word is that it will focus most prominantly on Chun-Li. Street Fighter is scheduled for a 2008 release.
