Do you like DRM? Well, it is only going to get worse it seems, as a new copy-protection software for DVD publishers is out. Named ProtectDisc, it not only makes it difficult to rip movies that you have purchased, but actually prevents you from playing it in a Windows based PC at all.
So you buy the DVD, pop it in your expensive Windows Media Center Edition PC, and the software tricks your machine into believing that the IFO file size is zero bytes long, thus not allow you to play the disc in Windows Media Player, or any DirectShow-based software.
Of course there are already workarounds for us “tech savvy” people, but for everyone else that either plays DVD’s on their computer or an expensive HTPC theatre system, they will be out of luck.
