It seems that MSMobilenews.com has acquired a picture of what the next version of what the PDA-OSS of choice for most people will look like. In short, it’s Vista in a smaller screen, which isn’t necessarily a good thing:

Even though it looks “nicer”, it appears that Microsoft continues to insist on making their toolbars bigger, when the trend for mobile device screens is to make them wider and thinner. In practical terms, this means that if you’re using the OS horizontally, as shown, a big percentage of your working area will be occupied by that thick toolbar on the top.
I don’t know about you readers, but as soon as I install Windows XP I quickly change it’s theme to one that has a thinner start-menu bar so I can make the most out of the reduced height my wide screen laptop has.
