Some people really have too much time on their hands. A clever programmer known only as Dampe, has taken the incredibly hard task of trying to convert “the Ocarina of Time” into a 2D game. From the trailer available on his site, the game engine seems to be very fluid, and if he manages to complete this project it could very well become one of the most popular game conversions ever. I wish him the best of luck, however, I’m a bit concerned about how he’ll be able to convert the water dungeon (future) since it required a lot of 3D movement. Read more »

23 8-Bit Women
Someone has recently taken the time to review 23 female character from old 8-Bit NES games. Each one is judged on beauty, personality and a random trait. And some of them are extremely funny, like this one for example (referring to Princess Zelda from Zelda 2) Hotness: 8 – Sure’s she in a magical coma, but she’s the titular character. Thus, she must be hot. Inner Beauty: 9 – In Ocarina of Time, she had the Triforce of Wisdom inside her. How’s that for inner beauty? Date Rape: 10 – Since Zelda is already incapacitated, Link doesn’t have to waste rupees on rufies. Read more »

EA CEO: Sony only shippped 200k Playstation 3 at launch
EA CEO Jeff Probst recently said in an interview that Sony only managed to ship half the number of consolers they had predicted for the launch day. Probst said demand for Sony’s much-anticipated PlayStation 3 (PS3), which made its U.S. debut on November 17 for the critical holiday season, was strong but a shortage of supply meant that only about 200,000 units of the game console were sold at retail outlets. So far, Sony hasn’t announced how many consoles they’ve sold. I’m my opinion, they’re probably behind their expectations, otherwise I’m pretty sure that they would have bragged about it already. Guy Kawasaki Interviews Steve Wozniak
Over on zBiz.TV they have a great video with Guy Kawasaki interviewing Steve Wozniak. If you want to hear some geek history, check it out. It is around an hour long, but Woz is just crazy. the Commonwealth Club of Silicon Valley this week where I was invited to videotape Guy Kawasakiâs interview of Steve Wozniak. I even got to meet and speak briefly with Woz and found him to be just as genuine and loveable as he comes across in his book, which I read recently and would heartily endorse for your reading pleasure. Preparing for Power Outages
People whose jobs or businesses involve being online most of the time (which includes probloggers like us) have to rely on power to get things done. But acts of nature can potentially hamper our productivity by pulling the plug just when we need to publish that blog post, send that proposal by email, or seal that deal via videoconferencing. I remember the last time a super typhoon hit our archipelago, my city had no power for five days. We also lost phone (and DSL) service, so even if I could run on laptop batteries, I could still not connect to the Internet. I had to rely on generator- and WiFi-enabled Read more »
Nintendo release safety information for Wii
It’s normal for gadget manufacturers to release a few safety warnings when they release a new gadget. But since the complaints about Wii-related damages have been great, or at least very debated, Nintendo have decided to release a more thorough guide to help their customers keep their televisions and windows intact. One of the things that made me chuckle about the guide was this warning: in Wii Sports bowling, the proper way to let go of the ball while bowling is to release the “B” button on the Wii RemoteâDO NOT LET GO OF THE Wii REMOTE ITSELF Thanks Nintendo! Even the usual (boring) safety guides are fun when you Read more »
Goodbye RAZR, Hello SCPL
Motorola have finally decided to move on from their very successful RAZR series and introduce a new one called SCPL (“scalpel”) which will be powered by a completely new Linux-based Operative System. The first model of this series will be a low end model that focuses on being as simple and intuitive as possible. Motorola officials have claimed that the phone might perhaps go for sale for $50 when it reaches the US. So basically, they’re introducing a cheap, Linux-based cellphone that’s simple to use… sounds like a winning formula to me. That same formula did wonders for Nokia a few years back with the 3210 and 3310, so perhaps Read more »

Don't sit up straight! It strains your back
A recent study by researchers from Canada and Scotland seems to prove that standing up straight helps to strain your back more than if you’d lean back a little, at 135º to be precise. Measurements of spinal angles, spinal disk height, and movements were taken. When undue strain is placed on a disk, it moves – often out of place. The researchers found that the upright position, at 90 degrees, caused disks to move the most, while the relaxed position (135 degrees) caused disks to move the least. In other words, the upright position is the worst for the back, while the relaxed position is the best. It’s going to Read more »
