Certain horror franchises have been doing rather well in the comic book market, these days. Army of Darkness, Friday the 13th, a Nightmare on Elm Street, Re-Animator and Darkman have all seen comic-based revivals. Well, next in line is Chucky, the killer doll from the Child’s Play franchise.

Devil’s Due’s Josh Blaylock had this to say:

“Devil’s Due’s infatuation with the horror genre isn’t a new one; the breakout cult success of Tim Seeley’s HACK/SLASH sparked more than enough interest to follow up with horror/occult themed LOST SQUAD, BLACK HARVEST, and NIGHTWOLF, as well as a brief revival of the dormant Chaos Comics ghouls. We’re excited as can be to bring Chucky to comics. Coming up with ideas for the character is ‘child’s play’.”

No news yet on the plot or the creative team, though some sketch art and the cover might imply that Chucky will be facing off against a human-sized doll woman. It’s only a hunch, but there’s a good chance Don Mancini might be involved in some way, considering he wrote all five films

Child’s Play will be released in early 2007
