AkihabaraNews recently got their hands on an unreleased Sony Vaio laptop from their upcoming G series which is indicated for journalists and businessmen who travel a lot. This little laptop packs quite a few features for it’s small body, and even though I was, at first, a bit disappointed with it, thanks to the video I now see what the strong features of this laptop are, and who it’s competing with.

Basically this is a very light, but well-built, laptop, with a 12 inch screen 4/3 ratio screen, instead of the more common wide screens, with a very long lasting battery life.
With it’s default battery, and average use, the reviewer was able to pull 4 hours of battery life out of it (according to Sony, the same battery lasts up to 6 hours). And you can purchase a higher capacity battery which will give you up to 12 hours of battery life according to Sony, although, a more realistic number of hours might be 8 hours if you do a ratio between the hours they got from the normal battery, and the 12 hours one. But still, 8 hours of battery life for a laptop is a very impressive achievement. I sometimes don’t get that amount of battery life on my DAP!
Another thing that was very surprising about the laptop, is that the reviews wasn’t minimally preoccupied with the laptop’s construction, he turns, twists, bends, hangs, the laptop in as many ways as he can and the laptop remains physically unhurt. Which is a great achievement, considering that it’s screen is thinner than one of those thin Crystal CD cases, as shown on this picture:

So what you get for this laptop is something more durable (on the outside at least), than an Apple MacBook, with a more outdated processor, but much longer battery life. So if portability and battery life are the two main specifications you want out of a laptop, this is the one you should be looking out for.
Admittedly, the Sony Type G is slightly more expensive, but the price difference is meaningless considering what this computer has to offer. The Vaio Type G is THE compact PC of the moment, and while I had it in my hands for a few days, I totally forgot about the Panasonic R5⊠Thank you Sony!
