With the last generation of Nano, consumers were more worried about their beloved player scratching rather than it playing music well. With this generation of the Nano, the problem seems to be with the music itself.
Many of the owners cite that their units are fully functional despite the whining, although the volume of the unwanted sound varies between each report; for example, russgra states that the whining sound was the first thing he noticed after picking up his 8GB nano, although Energie claims that he wouldn’t have noticed had he not seen the problem popping up in forums. There doesn’t seem to be any correlation to any particular model within the range either, with 2, 4, and 8GB owners all reporting the annoyance
In short, it makes a small sound that some owners only noticed after they read the topic. Apple hasn’t officially responded to the topic, however, some of the users claim that it might be possible to solve it with a firmware update. But in my opinion, I think that the users are just being perfectionists. I tried out a 2nd Gen Nano recently and personally I didn’t notice any flaws in it, but maybe I wasn’t looking for them.
