DIY: Wii Laptop

Now that Nintendo’s new baby is among us, it was only a matter of time before hackers and modders opened it up and started tunning it to their tastes. And although in terms of specifications, it’s nowhere as impressive as Sony’s PS3 or Microsoft’s XBox 360, in terms of size, it’s certainly the smallest, and therefore most portable.

That is why a clever modder by the name of Ben Heck, decided to make his own Wii Laptop so he can take the console around with him and hook it up easily to any television or simply play on the embedded LCD.

“It’s the Wii laptop! We spent the last few weeks (including much time spent over the holidays evading relatives) slaving over this bad boy and finally it’s complete. Check out the features:

  • 16:9 widescreen LCD, 7-inch diagonal.
  • Stereo sound
  • Gamecube controller port
  • Built-in short range Sensor Bar
  • Ports for using original Sensor Bar and A/V output jacks (for use on external display)
  • Built-in power supply and compartment for power cord
  • Dimensions: 8.5 x 7.7 x 2-inches

So if you want a good excuse to avoid your relatives for a few weeks, you could perhaps try doing this mod yourself and then win their hearts back by showing up at their parties with this little baby.

That is so sweet. Nintendo should consider making a console with a built in screen.

  2. Marty says:

I certainly hope those are component outputs and not composite. very cool.
