I you have an wifi-connected Wii, then you probably woke up yesterday and saw it shinning it’s disk tray as if it was trying to tell you something. Well, now the Wii has plenty of things to say to you every day, because it’s promised News Channel has finally been released.

If you’ve used the Wii’s Weather Channel, then operating the news channel should come naturally to you.

First of all, when you kick off the service you have to choose one of the categories you want. You can choose from the usual categories starting from geographic-specific ones like National and Regional News, and onto Sports, Arts, Business, Science and, of course, Technology.

When you click on any of them, with the exception of the regional, you are presented with a list of titles, similar to what you’d find on any RSS reader.

The real “magic” happens when you choose a region-specific article. When you read one of those you can see it’s geographical position on the right of the screen, and if you click on the bottom right you are taken to a “news version” of Google Earth which allows you to zoom, scroll and spin the world around.

The articles are limited to Associated Press ones, but this is by far the coolest and best looking news reader I have ever seen. I’m terribly sorry for not being able to find any decent pictures of it to show you readers.
