The team from ifixit.com have recently opened up the very discussed AirPort Extreme from Apple, and also decided to benchmark it. Their conclusion? The new Airport is faster than the 2.5x speed claims that Apple advertises when using the new “n” wireless protocol.
The new base station is amazing. We achieved a 10x performance boost, and a 3x usable range increase (significantly better than Apple’s 5x/2x claims). Actual benchmarks are on the next page.

Pretty impressive! Too bad I purchased a wireless router not too long ago, otherwise this would be the one I’d choose.
