If you’ve ever wanted to learn Ruby on Rails for developing web applications, SitePoint has a great beginner’s guide to letting you get your feet wet. If you’ve programmed before some of this may seem like baby steps, but if all you’ve ever done is use a WYSIWYG editor to make web pages, or if you’re familiar with HTML but that’s it…then this is a good guide to get you started on some more advanced programming.

The author, Patrick Lenz, does a good job of breaking things down, and if you like his writing (and these basic steps) you can purchase his book, Build Your Own Ruby On Rails Web Applications, after you finish the tutorials…but be sure and check out the basics here first…it will give you a good idea if Ruby on Rails is right for you, without you having to spend a dime.
