Sci-Fi Tech has an interesting update on the Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California (USC)’s experimental technology that can literally allow the blind to see.

Now, they haven’t completely restored vision to the blind just yet, but what they have done will allow blind individuals to distinguish light from dark, and see the outlines of objects.

This has been reported on before, but what is interesting now, is that they have jacked up the number of pixels that it can generate from 16 to 60. That’s a pretty significant jump, and at this rate Bionic Eyes like Geordi’s ocular implants from Star Trek (see pic) may be a reality sooner than later.
