The Hollywood Reporterhas confirmed that JJ Abrams will direct Star Trek XI. Abrams has long been attached to produce the fiml, but hasn’t commited to directing the film until this week.

The article goes on to mention that the plot of the film revolves around a Young Kirk and Spock meeting at Starfleet Academy. It is unclear if this plotline has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, or if they are merely reporting on speculation that has previously swept the Interweb.

From the Poster above you can see that even the teaser image suggests a TOS themed film, but the more I think about the idea of this being the new film, the less excited I am about it.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
