As far as Geeky movies go, Goonies and Weird Science have to be right up there…and it looks like both properties may be getting new installments.

The first report comes from MovieHole who states that the long rumored Goonies sequel may end up heading our way…but direct to video. Now, as someone who doesn’t like going to the theater, I don’t have a problem with that, but if it means no budget and no production value, then they just shouldn’t do it. The original Goonies is a freakin’ classic and I actually kinda shocked that they’re not talking about a remake at this point instead of a sequel.

Speaking of remakes, it looks like Weird Science is going to be getting the remake treatment. I’m not really sure why…but JoBlo reports that even though there has been a movie in the 80s and a TV series in the 90s that ran for 5 seasons, Universel still thinks there is some juice in this lemon yet to b squeezed out.

They have apparently hired writer Johnny Rosenthal to pen the script.
