TV Blend is reporting that Christopher Showerman has been cast as Flash Gordon in the upcoming Sci-Fi Channel Original series.
The new series should begin airing this fall.
Showerman (which sounds like an adult movie superhero to me) is a relative unknown who’s biggest role to date has been George from the direct-to-video George of the Jungle 2.
You can view his IMBD profile here.
It is not clear at this time what form the new Flash Gordon series is going to take…is it a serious re-invention of the franchise? A series played for comedy and camp? I’m hoping for something serious, with a good jolt of humor in it….we’ll have more info as it becomes available.
UPDATE: According to commenter Clint Morris, Christopher Showerman is but one of many being considered for the role at this point. we’ll let you know as soon as we know more.

1Chris hasn’t been cast as FLASH GORDON. He is merely one of the contenders – and there’s quite a few of them. It depends on how young they decide to cast. I work with Chris at ShorrisFilm.
