This year at the gaming world’s “Oscar” ceremony the contenders were many, and the battle between the current and past generation games was fierce, but still, I think that most of the results are more than acceptable, even though I was still surprised with a couple of the winners.

Gamespot announced the list beginning with the Game of the Year award, but instead of following their lead, I’ll announced that category in last place, but announce the contenders right now followed by the winners of the other categories. The nominees for Game of the Year are…

  • Gears of War (Epic Games / Microsoft Game Studios)
  • Okami (Clover Studio / Capcom Entertainment)
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Bethesda Game Studios / 2K Games/Bethesda Softworks)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo EAD / Nintendo)
  • Wii Sports (Nintendo)

And the winners are:

Audio: Guitar Hero II (Harmonix Music Systems / RedOctane)

Character Design: Okami (Clover Studio / Capcom Entertainment)

Game Design: Wii Sports (Nintendo)

Technology: Gears of War (Epic Games / Microsoft Game Studios)

Visual Arts: Gears of War (Epic Games / Microsoft Game Studios)

Writing: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo EAD / Nintendo)

And the winner of the Game Developers Choice Award for Game of the Year goes to:

And there you have it folks, all of the winners of the GDC 07 awards. Personally I was very glad that Okami managed to grab an award because it truly deserves recognition, and I hope that the “Clovers” will return in one form or another to grace us with other excellent games.
