Although there were many new titles, and announcements in GDC 2007, one of the most surprising is the appearance of EA’s latest version of Ultima Online. Instead of making an expansion pack with whichever classes are popular at the moment, like Ninjas or Samurais, they decided to revamp the entire interface. It still isn’t 3D, but at least it gives the game a much needed, more polished look.

As you can see from the picture on the left, all of the models now have a more detailed look, and the lighting effects have been drastically improved compared to before. According to Eurogamer the entire interface is also being remade to include the now common shortcut bars.

It isn’t exactly a World of Warcraft contender, and it would be unfair to compare the two. But I’m certain that several people who have played Ultima in the past are, at the very least, a bit excited about this makeover, unless they still haven’t gotten over EA’s decision to cancel Ultima X
