If you recently upgraded to Windows Vista, and you happen to own an iPod, one of the things that probably upset you was the lack of compatibility of iTunes with Microsoft’s new “WOW” OS (as they call it). In order to solve most of the issues that are bothering Vista users, Apple has released an update of iTunes to version 7.1.
Here are some of the issues that this latest update solves:
- Ejecting an iPod from Windows Explorer or the Windows notification area (system tray) using the “Safely Remove Hardware” feature may corrupt your iPod. To always safely eject an iPod, choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes. If your iPod becomes corrupt, selecting your iPod in iTunes and clicking Restore in the iPod’s Summary panel should return your iPod to a working condition.
- iTunes may display text or graphics incorrectly on your screen. Resizing the iTunes window should correct this issue.
- Contacts from Windows Contacts may not sync with iPod.
- iTunes remains unsupported on 64 bit editions of Windows, including Windows Vista and Windows XP x64.
They also released a few tips you can follow in case you are upgrading to Vista, you can read them here. Apart from the compatibility fixes, this new version also features:
Using iTunes 7.1, you can now enjoy your favorite iTunes movies, TV shows, music, and more from the comfort of your living room with Apple TV. iTunes 7.1 also supports a new full screen Cover Flow and improved sorting options to let you decide how iTunes should sort your favorite artists, albums, and songs.

4I have the very latest version of iTunes installed… but it hangs and crashes when I try to sync, doesnt like uploading my photographs.. that just kills the whole computer. Found the whole transition to Vista terrible. When I have the time, I am going back to XP… everything worked then.
Vista is so slow and painful to use.

5I have a new PC with vista home premium – 32 bit. Apple reckon iTunes 8 is vista compatible. WRONG! I installed iTunes 8….backed up my library on my old pc (xp) and restored it on my new one. I didn’t plug the ipod itself or any other mp3/4 device into my computer. The next day, it wouldn’t start. I looked as though it has lost sight of my hard drive, or at least doesn’t recognise it as a boot device. I restored vista to a pre-itunes state, but its still doing it… I can workaround it by pressing F8 during boot, and selecting my hard drive as the Boot from… device, but its very annoying, and I need a fix for it please.
