Variety reports that Maggie Gyllenhaal will be replacing Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in “The Dark Knight”, the sequel to “Batman Begins”.

I have to say I’m surprised they didn’t just drop the character and introduce a new love interest…I mean, after all, this is Batman we’re talking about here….it’s not like he’s known for having a steady relationship with this character or anything.

Maggie joins director Christopher Nolan an all star cast that includes Christian Bale, Gary Oldeman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, and Heath Ledger as the Joker.
