Michael Gartenberg was supposed to be one of a few people trying to replace Robert Scoble in Microsoft. Someone that could talk to the people and get them excited and interested in what Microsoft is doing. Oddly enough though, Michael only stayed with Microsoft for three weeks and has recently posted on his blog about leaving the company.

I find it very strange that someone would get into Microsoft in what seems like a really great position and then bail three weeks later.

He seemed excited in his February 15th post, where he said:

Why Microsoft? There’s a revolution going on. A battle for the hearts and minds of consumers in terms of their digital lives. I firmly believe that Microsoft is the only company that will enable the seamless transition for users to move in and out of the different aspects of their lives. In short, no one else comes close to presenting a complete, unified and integrated view of the digital home of the 21st century.

Whether it’s work, school or home, Microsoft has the potential to change lives even more than they already have. Who else could deliver mission critical technology to the business world, create the best Smartphone operating system, build a successful platform for console games (and pioneer online and connected play) and take on the iPod. All at the same time.

The key to all that, is software and I feel privileged to be a part of that and help get the word out.

And now he is heading back to his old job at Jupiter Research to be an Analyst again. It makes me wonder if anyone can truly replace Scoble and what he did for Microsoft. Should they even try? I am not so sure, but Microsoft still has a long way to go to repair their public relations image, and having someone ditch the job after three weeks is not really heading in the right direction.
