Nikon announces the D40x

Even though it has only been 4 months, since Nikon released the entry-level DSLR D40, they have just announced that a new, upgraded version will be released in order to compete with the Canon “rival”, the EOS 400D.

This new version comes with the same body but an upgraded CCD sensor capable of taking 10.2 Megapixel photos, which is a considerable upgrade, considering that the D40 had a 6.1 Mp sensor.

But that isn’t the only upgrade, this new camera also has wider ISO sensitivity, from 100 to 1600, is capable of taking up to 3 pictures per second, and features a longer lasting battery life (which is always welcomed for these cameras) that allows you to take up to 520 photos per charge, but you should already know that those numbers are sometimes exaggerated. You can expect to find this camera on the 22nd of March in many stores worldwide.

I feel a bit sorry for the people who bought the D40. Although the progress is inevitable, if the D40 wasn’t an “under-achiever” compared to the EOS 400D initially, this model wouldn’t have been released so soon.
