In the race for SSD Flash Hard Drives, Samsung continues to lead with hardly any competition at all. This time, they’re announcing a 64GB disk which will make every iPod, or laptop owner, wish for one inside one of their gadgets.
But this drive doesn’t just come with increased capacity. Samsung also increased the read and write performance by 20 and 60 percent respectively. Which means that the “wow” Vista OS will boot even faster than it currently will on some UMPCs with SSD drives.
This Christmas, supposedly, we will start to see a lot of new laptops with SSD drives, but since the mass production of this particular disk is set to start on the second quarter of the year I don’t think we will see this particular drive in any laptop unless we live in Japan or import it.

1Digital & Beyond, a hardware and software based company in El Segundo, CA., has an immediate OEM application for the new Samsung 1.8″‘ 64GB flash-based drive for portable/mobile image storage in the motion picture industry. Need particulars on OEM cost, delivery and applications notes. Would like to establish dialog with an applications engineer immediately.
Am speaking at motion picture technology group early next week. Time is of the essence.
