In a recent interview for GameDaily, SCE President, Phil Harris, reveals that there is no rush to reduce the Playstation 3’s price this year, and that there are no regrets with choosing Blu-Ray as the new format of the console.
Absolutely no pressure at all. I think that the reality of the market is that there’s a great deal of software people want to buy, there’s a great deal of software coming that will stimulate further activity in the market. We’re very comfortable with the plan.
Although I am not confortable with the Playstation 3’s price, I have to admit that the Phil has a point. With titles such as Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid in the horizon, the Playstation 3’s future looks brighter. And as much as I love my Nintendo Wii, if they don’t get their act together and start releasing some of the other first-party titles they introduced before Sony, they could be in for a bit of trouble.
And regarding Blu-ray:
No regrets whatsoever, and it’s those kinds of decisions, painful though they were to live through in the last quarter of 2006, those are the decisions that are going to propel PlayStation 3 to be a platform that lasts for ten years, like we’ve seen with PS1 and PS2. And it will be, I believe, reflected on as the smartest decision we ever made.

1Software? He’s still sure he’s selling games and not some hardware application? I can understand Harris thinks there’s no rush. There are clips like this and this around, blue ray being dumped by the porn industry and advantages points that the article mentions against Wii and in favour of PS3 aren’t a point either, they are fictional too; “last quarter of 2006″, “Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid in the horizon”. There’s no rush, sure….

2Personally, i belive that the blue-ray idea for the ps3 was a horrible idea. If they just offered the blue-ray an additionally add on, the ps3 would be cheaper and selling WAY more.
