Pidgin 2.0 Beta 7 released

Pidgin 2.0 Beta 7 released

The team behind (formerly known as Gaim) have released what they are calling the final beta before the final version, and have finally given the program a much needed “beauty treatment”, although in terms of layout, it remains pretty much the same. Other than that, this is a bugfix release. So there are no new features that I have noticed. The program seems pretty stable, although it has already crashed on me once already in a few hours of use. Snes joypad most influential joypad ever

Snes joypad most influential joypad ever

Although this isn’t anything new it is something that deserves attention, or at least proper recognition. Nintendo have been with us since the beginning (or at least the beginning of mainstream gaming), but although we don’t notice it, most of our current controllers have evolved from Nintendo’s own Snes pad. Sega tried to do something different, with it’s horizontal alignment of the action buttons, but even so, ended up returning to Nintendo’s roots with it’s excellent Dreamcast controller. Evangelion Headset

Evangelion Headset

If there ever was an Otaku’s dream headset, it would be this one. The official Evagenlion headset by Chara-Ani, in collaboration with Audio-Technica, which makes some of the best, although expensive, headsets in the market. Therefore I’m guessing that this one won’t be cheap either, but still, it would certainly turn heads in your local lan parties. Read more »

Installing Ubuntu in OS X via Parallels

Simple Help has a great tutorial on getting Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn to work with OS X’s Parallels. I highly recommend this version of Linux to pretty much everyone I talk to, and so now I don’t have to leave out my friends that are Apple users. This tutorial is for anyone with an Intel based Mac who is curious about Linux – specifically Ubuntu, and has about an hour to kill (not including the time it takes to download Ubuntu). The steps and screenshots used for this tutorial are specific to Parallels Build 3188 running on a MacBook Pro w/ OS X (10.4.9). With that said, they will be Read more »

Toggl: Track Your Time

If you are looking for a way to track the amount of time you are using on your freelance projects, or even a way to prove to your girlfriend that you aren’t gaming for hundreds of hours a week, try Toggl. Toggl allows you to set up projects, and click a button to let it know you are working on said project, and again to stop. And even cooler, you can show reports and manage teams. While I have a hard time taking this application serious, I can see its benefits and it would be of great use for some geeky things. Tracking how much time you spend on MMO’s Read more »

First pic of Armored DOOM online!

First pic of Armored DOOM online!

I don’t want to be excited about Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I don’t want to expect a good movie. I don’t want to go into the theater thinking that I might see SOME version of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s vision of this team come to life…but I CAN’T HELP IT!!!! This new pic from (the horribly designed) Countingdown is the first time we’ve seen a pic of Doom in this armor. You may remember we posted concept designs of this armor a while ago, but this is the first confirmation that we’ve had that he will appear in this armor in the film. Galacticloud rumors BE Read more »

Former Apple & Tivo employees gear up for Vudu

Former Apple & Tivo employees gear up for Vudu

Vudu is going to go head to head with the AppleTV this summer. What is Vudu? Well, right now I’m not 100% sure. It looks slick, it has major backing from former Apple and Tivo employees, and is going to launch with THOUSANDS of movies available for it this summer. Now, will they be rentals? Will it be a subscription model with “all you can eat” access? Will it have DVR? These are all good questions, and I don’t know the answers to any of them, but you can rest assured, that we will be keeping a close eye on it here. For right now, Gizmodo has the first details. Flash Gordon "Saviour" Edition Coming in August

Flash Gordon "Saviour" Edition Coming in August

Geeks of Doom (home to my new favorite blog design in the world) has posted some info on the upcoming “Saviour of the Univese” edition DVD release of the 1980 camped out classic “Flash Gordon”. Like Dave3, I have to agree that, without the Queen theme, this movie wouldn’t be quite as cool, and I can’t wait to see both this new DVD release, and the “re imagined” series on Sci-fi later this year. Flash Gordon is one of those franchise characters that has been sitting on the sidelines for FAR too long, and I can’t wait to see him back in the spotlight. The DVD set is going to Read more »

Superman: Doomsday Trailer Now Online

Superman: Doomsday Trailer Now Online

DC is entering the direct-to-dvd animated feature market with Superman: Doomsday this September. IMDB now has the trailer online, although it is only available in Windows Media and RealPlayer formats. The cut of the trailer isn’t very impressive, but the animation looks excellent. It almost looks like an evolution of the Bruce Timm style, with just a hint of “The Batman” styled animation (but not too much…calm down fanboys). The DVD hits in September, and you can be sure we’ll have a full review of it on or before the release date. Click Here to check out the full trailer. Read more »
