HandBrake is a handy Open Source application that allows you to rip your DVDs into other video formats. Although it used to be a Mac-only application, the latest build is compatible with the 3 most popular Operative Systems: Windows, Mac and Linux.
Besides being multi-platform, it now supports the media formats of some of the most popular devices like the iPod, the Apple TV or even the Playstation 3. It will still take hours for the whole process to complete, but at least now you won’t need to re-encode your videos a couple of times before finally being able to watch it on your device of choice.
