As some might have already anticipated, it appears that the iPhone will be released on the first day of the eagerly awaited WWDC which will be held from June 11th to June 15th. This information came directly from Cingular, and in all honesty, I don’t find it surprising:

Now Cingular is confirming that the release date will be June 11. A customer service manager at Cingular (we called 800-947-5096 and were transferred to sales) gave us that date late Thursday, but, alas, said he didn’t have any additional information beyond that.

Even though it might not be anything more than what some Cingular manager claims I find it pretty believable, and even if it isn’t released on that exact day, it probably won’t be released more than a week after.
