So, don’t you just love it when a celebrity says something really stupid?
Kirstin Dunst did just that the other day when talking to EW.com about the possibility of there being a Spider-Man 4…here…take a read…
She says she can’t imagine returning for Part 4 without both her director and her costar: “It’s disrespectful to the whole team, I think, to do that. And audiences aren’t stupid. It’d be a big flop without me, Tobey, or Sam. That would really not be the smartest move. But they know that already. [Sony chief] Amy Pascal would never do that.”
You know…I just don’t even quite know what to say about that. There is no denying that the team that has produced these 3 Spider-Man movies has done a great job. The first two are fantastic films, and the third one looks like it might be even better. It’s a great series, and it would be really cool if the team behind it decided to do a fourth…but if they don’t…so what?
I’ll be happy to see a new Spider-Man movie with a new creative team in a few years. These movies, just like their comic book counterparts, can easily withstand a creative team change. Getting new actors is like getting a new artist on the book. Kirstin Dunst does not make or break the Spider-Man franchise.

1While I think more Spider-man movies would definitely sell with or without Raimi and company, I agree with her on the point that they shouldn’t make more. Just because does the world really need Spiderman 4, 5, 6?

2Yes Seth, the world does need Spider-man 5, 6, and 7
The world will always need fun, escapist movies. Spider-Man is a great film franchise that will still be in theaters for decades to come.
and I should also point out, that she isn’t saying they shouldn’t make more. She’s said that she’s into the idea of more if Sam and Tobey come back. She’s just saying that there shouldn’t be anymore with them, because the movies would flop without them in it.

3Michael, doesn’t the world also need a Spider-man 4?
Kirsten Dunst doesn’t make the franchise, that is true. But People love them and want to see more of them. The 4th installment will not do as well as the third with a new team. However there is no doubt that a 4th one will rack up millions upon millions upon millions.
