If you’ve ever used, or read about, Vista, you should already know of the advantages of having a (fast) flash memory plugged to your system. Supposedly, it improves the performance of the Operative System in general and allows it to boot up much faster.
But certainly you can also understand why it is unpractical to connect a USB drive to your PC every time you wish to boot it up, or to leave it permanently connected to it (which won’t work, if you’re using a laptop). That is why Samsung has spent time developing Hybrid Hard Drive (HHD) disks which feature both the traditional disk and also a flash memory component, which gives you the same advantages (although increased, in terms of performance gain) of plugging a flash memory to a Vista PC, but in one embedded unit, instead of two separate ones.
The hard drive featured in this new laptop, the R55, has 256mb of flash memory and 80Gb of capacity, and Samsung claims that it reduces the boot time of Windows Vista by 50% and reduces power consumption by 70-90%, which will give you, approximately, 30 minutes more of battery life with your laptop.
