New Bloggy Network Sister Blog, TV Jab reports that Eric Johnson, who played Lana Lang’s high school sweetheart Whitney on the first few seasons of Smallville, has been cast as Flash Gordon in the new upcoming series.

I have to say, I’m very excited about this series. I love the plupish styled characters like Flash Gordon, and I hope this is an interesting take on the character. I’m sure it will be a modernized series, but I hope they don’t go quite as dark as Battlestar Galactica. They have ordered 22 episodes of the show, so I think that’s a pretty good indicator that they think they have a hit on their hands. We’ll see.
