He was a hero to dozens.

In the early 90s, the NFL wanted to get in with the kids, and decided to work with Marvel Comics to produce the worst comic book in the history of time. That comic was NFL Superpro. Written (and never lived down by) Fabian Nicieza, the story focused on Phil Grayfield, an NFL football player who suffered a tragic knee injury while saving a kid. He later became a reporter and met an eccentric NFL fan who had created a special NFL uniform that was individually produced and cost over 5 million dollars to make.

Phil was later covered in chemicals and burning NFL merchandise (seriously) that gave him super powers. Then he stole the crazy guy’s suit and brought the criminals to justice.

Honestly…that’s what happened…

The series had a very short run…primarily because it was terrible…

Still NFL SuperPro is such a bad book that it almost becomes good. Much like an Ed Wood movie, or the Sci-Fi classic Robot Monster, this thing is a trainwreck that you can’t help but look at as it goes buy on fire.

If you ever get a chance to pick up any issue of NFL SuperPro, I beg you to do it. You will have added something to your collection that will add value to every single comic you own when you hold it next to them. This thing makes Warriors of Plasm look like Watchmen.
