This weekend proved to be a harsh one for several films with Grindhouse now officially a certified flop. The $53 million dollar Double Feature dropped down to the 10th slot this weekend raking an additional $4,239,000 dollars and bringing its total to a whopping $19,700,000, and only $1,612 per theater. Rumors are circulating that the two films might be split and re-released under their individual titles in the near future…we’ll have to wait an see.

Of the two films we reviewed that opened this week, Pathfinder managed to come out in the 6th place slot, earning $4,800,000 and $2,790 per theater. You can check out our review of the movie here.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters was the other movie release we covered this weekend, and while it only made it to the 13th highest ranking film over-all, the movie had a much more limited release than most of the other features released this week. It managed to bring in $3,088,000 and $3,521 per theater. Since Aqua Teen was only released in 877 theaters (compared to 1,720 for Pathfinder, and 2,629 for Grindhouse), the 13th place debut is actually rather impressive.

On a per theater basis, Aqua Teen managed to rank in the Top 5 of all films released this weekend. I’m sure the folks at Adult Swim are pleased with the results, but I’m not sure if there is really a need for a movie like this to be in theaters…anyway, if you want to take a look at our (mostly) positive review of Aqua Teen, you can do so here.
