John Martellaro from the Mac Observer has posted an interesting article regarding the Apple operative system. It doesn’t really teach much, but it does explain why Microsoft continues to struggle to maintain their products secure, while Apple continues to cruise by.

“The difference isn’t market share, it’s the foundation of the operating systems. Given that most virus authors and hackers are in it for the ego, don’t you think that there would be a huge incentive to be the first one to write a widespread OS X, Linux, or FreeBSD virus?”

Given that Mac OS X is based BSD Unix, and Windows still struggles because of it’s compatibility compromise to allow Win32 applications to run on NT based systems. Palm is also taking the leap to a new platform which will be Linux based and hopefully they should deliver better and more affordable products.

Do you think that Microsoft will ever leap and leave it’s insecure roots behind, or are we doomed to see Win32 compatibility, and problems, through this century or more?
