Apple TV – Now with 160GB and YouTube coming soon

If you thought that Apple would give up on the Apple TV soon, it appears that you’re wrong. Although it’s still far from the storage capacity that we would like to have, 160GB should be enough to keep a considerable amount of media in the device. But if that upgrade wasn’t good enough for you, then you’ll be happy to hear that Apple will soon bring YouTube functionality to Apple TV, during the month of June, which will take Apple TV in a surprising new direction. Instead of simply being the link between your computer and your television, it will be, more or less, an internet video recorder. The upgraded Read more »

Firefox 2.0.0.4 released

The latest version of the popular browser, which we featured here not too long ago, has just been released. Unfortunately, there are no new features for it. It is simply a security update that increases compatibility with the Vista Operative System. There are also two new language translations of the browser in Afrikaans (af) and Belarusian (be), which should convince some new users from those countries to make the switch. If you want to see the complete changelog, just click here, or if you want to get this latest version, just go to getfirefox.com. Read more »

Panasonic announces electronic bycicle

Panasonic announces electronic bycicle

Although bycicles aren’t used a lot as transportation in countries other than some Asian ones, this particular one should interest those that intend to use it for going to places. This bike, that was just announced, can carry you for 19 miles at 15mph, with some minimum effort from the rider. It will be sold in Japan for approximately 740$. In my personal opinion, buying a bike such as this one kind of ruins the purpose of it. You might as well get a scooter if you intend on buying a bike such as this one. Read more »

Countdown #48 (DC Comics) – Comic Review

Countdown #48 (DC Comics) – Comic Review

Well, they can’t all be Grade A, and this week isn’t. The Countdown story continues with a few new and interesting pieces to the puzzle, but also a few glaringly bad plot points, and the worst dialogue of the series thus far. One plot point that I can’t wrap my head around is the fact that The Daily Planet knows who Jason Todd is. If they know Jason Todd by name…then doesn’t Batman’s secret identity just plain fall apart? It seems like, know that bit of information…who Jason Todd is, and that he used to be Robin, it’s only a stone’s throw away from figuring out Bruce Wayne is Batman. Read more »

iTunes launches Plus service with DRM-free tracks

Apple has recently opened their DRM-free music store, named iTunes Plus, which not only sells music at a higher bitrate but also completely free of any “evil” DRM code. These new tracks are only available for EMI artists, and will cost you an additional $0.30, as we already knew. If you already purchased tracks from EMI artists, you will have the option to upgrade the albums to a “Plus” version, however, for the moment, you won’t be able to upgrade individual tracks. Ars, tried to upgrade some tracks they purchased on Windows machines and had some problems with it. My guess is that it’s because of the algorithm that checks Read more »

USB VGA graphic adapter

USB VGA graphic adapter

If you happened to have bought a laptop recently, that doesn’t happen to have a VGA port, then you’re in luck, a company called I-O Data has just announced a USB to VGA graphic adapter for anyone that has a USB port. Although this small device is most likely only Windows compatible, it can perhaps make the choice for your next laptop a bit easier, since you can “discard” the idea of only purchasing laptops with VGA ports. It’s a bit expensive, costing approximately $87, but then again, I can think of more than one occasion where having such a device could be priceless. Read more »

Nintendo ships new mod-proof Wiis

Looks like Nintendo is wasting no time on fighting piracy with it’s console. From now on, if you purchase a Nintendo Wii in Japan, the model with be much harder, if impossible to mod, due to the removal of some circuitry pins which the modchip needed in order to work. Right now, unless you have really good modding skills and equipment, there is no way to alter the console’s innards to enable it to run pirated games. Although it’s a bit weird to see this sort of move coming from Nintendo, at least they’re not taking the Microsoft approach and render the modified consoles almost useless. Read more »

Samsung announces 4GB Nand module for cellphones

Probably the most relevant limitation of most cellphones today, is the low storage capacity they have, or the limits of the flash cards that they support. Thankfully, Samsung has been moving the industry forward, in terms of flash memory at least, and have just announced a new 4GB model aimed at mobile devices. That chip should allow programmers to develop more robust applications without worrying about the size, just the performance, and also allow them to ditch the expandable memory slot, which means that we might just be able to slice a few more millimeters off of our cellphones.
