According to a recent study by the American communications company Motorola, 45% of all European broadband users watch, at least, some television online. The survey was conducted in some of the most important European countries: UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.
One thing it did not ask the participants, was the method they used to acquire, or watch their television shows, which could go from any service like YouTube, to more illegal methods like the download via a P2P protocol, like the popular Bittorrent.
Motorola’s Marketing Director, Karl Elliott says:
Viewers across Europe are no longer satisfied with fitting into schedules dictated by broadcasters and are turning to the choice and flexibility offered by TV over the internet, (…)
We are witnessing a nation of citizen schedulers who are in control of their entertainment, allowing them to watch what they want, how and when they want it.
Looks like the Apple TV, or similar devices, can very well become more successful than they apparently are in the coming years.

1Is downloading TV shows via BitTorrent really illegal? I pay my TV license in the UK, what if I recorded shows onto my PC. Is that illegal too?
