Although I sometimes say to myself that Microsoft fans aren’t as passionate towards the company, as the fans of Apple and Nintendo are, I have never seen a project of such weight and importance take shape for any of them before.

A group of people who were unhappy with Microsoft’s decision to scrap the WinFS filesystem, and take Longhorn to the path that Vista took, have decided to take the build 6.0.4074 of Windows, and update it under the name of Longhorn Reloaded.

Although Microsoft hasn’t responded to this project officially but my guess is that will change soon enough. Altering code and re-distributing Longhorn in this way is clearly against the terms of service. I would like to say that Microsoft might have a change of heart, but their past actions have already fooled me a couple of times, so I’ll refrain from keeping my hopes up this time.
