Looks like Microsoft is becoming keen on releasing special editions of their products. After the ridiculously-long-named Vista, for which we still haven’t forgiven them, the next product to see a special edition is their popular Xbox 360 console.

The Simpson’s movie edition of the console will come in yellow. The same yellow you’re used to seeing as their skin tone, with a drawing of Homer’s head peeking on the side and the movie’s title in the front.

Here’s a quote from the original announcement:

“The Simpsons” will take Xbox 360 by storm later this summer in advance of the famous Springfield family’s big-screen debut on July 27, 2007. Xbox 360 is partnering with FOX to help promote “The Simpsons Movie,” offering fans the chance to get their hands on one of 100 limited-edition “Simpsons” Xbox 360 Pro consoles through a series of special events and promotions. Given how much Microsoft advertised the XBox 360’s customization possibilities, I’m surprised that not many special edition consoles have been released yet. Although it’s a bit unfair to compare it with consoles that have obviously sold more units, like the Playstation 2, or the Gameboy or Nintendo DS, in Japan it’s common to see limited edition releases of them.
