It's been forever since I read comics, but couldn't Venom regenerate himself? There was a couple gooey Venomdrops laying around that could bring him back.
Also, I must say that the thing I disliked about the movie most was that the Symboite's most major effect on Parker was the urge to comb his hair forward and become the Emo posterchild. The whole him walking down the street scene reminded me of a friend that I had in high school that thought he was God's gift to women, and has about as much machismo as a Wendy's milkshake. It was bad...and not just a little bad...it was the Paris Hilton of movie scenes. Between that and the dance dance emolution scene that followed it, I almost walked.

Out of all the things wrong with this movie (which you point out brilliantly) I mourn the mis-use of Venom the most. This movie was in serious need of a lot more tongue!

When Spidey 2 came out and the studio first hinted they might make a parts 4, 5, & 6 I really hoped that they would have make Venom the overall villian in those the way Harry/The Goblin played out over 1, 2, & 3.

IMO the best way to serve Venom's story would have been to take it nice and slow. Have Peter find the black suit in 4 and start to feel it's influence starting with just a little extra cockiness, a little bit more flippancy. This would be a B-story while another villian took the spotlight (perhaps Mysterio, or the Vulture).

By 5 have things really take a turn for the worse culminating in the scene in the church and the symbionte bonding with Brock. The Lizard, with his struggle between human and beast, would have been an excellent villian for part 5 and would have mirrored Peter's inner struggle with the suit.

Then have Venom in all his toothy, slobbering glory come back as the primary villian in part 6, hellbent on revenge.

When I found out that they were putting Venom in part 3, along with Harry AND the Sandman I figured the best I could hope for was a Batman Forever/Batman & Robin type scenario - "Venom" may only show up at the end of 3 but then he comes back in 4.

And now I can't even hope for that much! Poor, poor Venom. What a waste of such a cool villian.

Sam Raimi (or perhaps the producers) need to be slapped silly with a soggy spleen.

The film was really badly paced with characters crammed in just for the sake of it.

They should have given the symbiote a real entrance instead of a fizzing plop into a forest. I found the saturday night fever scene "funny" but badly placed in the movie, if it had happened earlier when the new suit was fun but then show Parker slowly turning to the dark side.

And Sandman should have been given a personal reason to fight Spiderman. I thought Harry would promise to pay his daughters medical bills if he took on Spidey or Venom would grab his daughter and tell him to kill Spidey.

And granted Raimi may not have wanted Venom in the movie but did he have to cack all over the character. Topher Grace is a good actor and although wouldn't have been my choice for brock was supprisingly good. He was hardly used bar the final fight, at the end of which he's completly vaporised by a fire bomb that 45 minutes earlier gave Harry nothing more than a bit of a scar.

There was a good film in there somewhere but just to much other crap in the way.

The movie never matches the comics. In Japan we have the Japanese manga version of Spiderman where our Peter Parker (Komori Yu) is a much darker and more repressed character. The movie opened in Tokyo first but I would have liked to have seen a movie based on the Japanese manga version

and in the category of amazing coincidences, how about Flint Marko happening upon the one particle accelerator that does it's experiments around midnight, and is staffed by a bunch of scientists unable to discern the weight difference between a human and a bird. Taking all 3 movies into account, it's obvious that the scientists of NYC think very little of safety equipment and procedures...

I think that everyone in the movie forgot that Parker was Spiderman...MJ did, because she caved to Harry on the whole "If you want Peter to live..." bit (Hello, he's freakin' Spiderman, maybe MJ should've told Harry to take his chances with him instead of picking on a woman?) Parker definitely forgot he was Spiderman since he spent the majority of the movie in costume, one color or another, sans mask. It was barely a Spidey movie (except the last half, which was obviously "Spiderman as written, produced, and directed by someone at the Lifetime channel")

The movie was a musical, a broadway show, and a superhero buddy movie (wtf?! If "Go get her, buddy!" isn't the worst line from a superhero movie, then I'm lost)

Too many characters, too little development, too much suckage. I'm not buying the dvd either.

I agree entirely with Michael's review! I was expecting further atrocities since the first movie! Spiderman is my favorite superhero, but these movies have deformed his story in so many ways! Personally, i don't even think the some of the casting fits! Osborn and Harry fit, but everyone else seems wrong for the part!
I'm glad someone agrees with me. All my friends (who don't read the comics and such) were raving about the movies and were so surprised when i showed disappointment.

Also, The symbiote, venom, was also poorly portrayed as Jeff mentioned...just, i'm just so disappointed. *tear*

this is the same thing in spideman 1 when pete discovers his power's. in the comic book, peter just shoot spidey web from his wrist. he actually designed a wrist device that shot spidey web. same goes for the batman and xmen movies. you dont know how disappointed i am when they dont follow the comic book stories. producers needs to make it more hollywood...ugh.

Yeah, I agree. I think the way the symbiote was just bonded to him in the comics is a much better way to do it than what they chose to do in the film.

Another thing I didn't like about the movie, which may be seen as nitpicking, is that after Peter aquires the symbiote he keeps taking the damn thing off. The whole point of the symbiote is that once its on you, its not easy to get off. Now, in the comics Peter never took it off, infact the symbiote would change it's appearance to look like street clothes.
