I think is a bad idea that "democractic election" because there will be allways a part of the comunity who dont bellieve them, just an example, do you believe a member of the "council" if he is member of BoD (Band of developers ^^)? personally not.

... and, about "none of my friends, or friends of friends play EVE", same here ;)

Regards!

Honestly, its mostly to make sure people working in the company don't go ahead and give certain players or factions a leg up on others... Its not really directly about the features of the game or anything else...its to re-build trust in the EVE MMO.

In World of Warcraft, Blizzard never lets things get out of hand. Usually whenever someone discovers a new bug, or a way to use the game that was not intended they fix it.

They have a forum with a very active community (although 95% are whiners) that give suggestions. Although most of them are complaints, and not really suggestions, there are a few selected people there that truly give constructive advice.

From my past experience in MMOs, mainly in a private Ultima Online server, I think that player-elected "overseers" is unfair. Only the most popular players will receive that privilege, and not necessarily the ones that can help things go in the right direction.

In that Ultima Online server, the most popular, or influential players, were usually chosen by the Admins to become the new "Counselors" and if they did well, they'd even become GameMasters. In 95% of the cases, those players abused their powers by giving their friends inside information of new rare spawns of mounts or monsters, or simply gave them free items.

Although I doubt, or hope that the Overseers won't have those privileges, I still think it's a bad idea to make such an initiative. What they should have is a public forum that all players can access and discuss possible future changes to the game.
