Not every comic needs more than a few sentences to describe it…we call those comics Quick Takes…..

The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #13

flash13.jpg There has been a lot of very obvious hype surrounding this book. So much hype, in fact, that I picked it up thinking that surely the thing everyone on the web has “known” was going to happen, wasn’t actually going to happen….but it did…and it was unremarkable, and seemed to ultimately be pointless. Also, I don’t buy that it’s the last time we’ll see this character for a second…and I’m getting sick of death being meaningless…

Grade: C+

Maybe it’s because I know about the real losses in Jeph Loeb’s life, but I didn’t feel like I was reading Wolverine or Spider-Man in this issue. I felt like I was reading Jeph Loeb speak directly to the readers about coping with an unimaginable loss. Having said that, next to nothing happens in this issue other than that conversation.

Grade: B –

The Spirit #7 - Darwyn Cooke takes a break this month in this “Summer Special”. We get three Spirit stories for the price of one, and all 3 are interesting. The artwork and production is top notch on the first two, but the 3rd tale, by the infinitely talented Kyle Baker just looks terrible. The Spirit continues to be one of, if not the, best book that DC is publishing.

Grade: A
