Although Apple refrained from introducing new computers at the WWDC event (which we and Apple Gazette covered), Sony didn’t hold back and decided to announce 21 new laptop models based around 5 or 6 designs that all start with a letter followed by “Z” which is the newest line.
The, supposedly, top-of-the-line A series Sony Vaio laptops will have the following specifications:
Blu-ray player, Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz), 1GB RAM, 240GB HDD, and Nvidia GeForce 8600M, 17 inches monitor rocking a 1920×1200 resolution, HDMI, A/B/G Wifi, Bluetooth…
(1GB of RAM only? What are they thinking?)
The low-voltage G series model comes with:
Windows VISTA Business, a U1400 Core Solo (1.20GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD DL burnern Wigi A/B/G, Bluetooth
The B series which is more or less the basic laptop-replacement series has the following specs:
The processor is a T7100 Core 2 Duo (1.8GHz) backed up with 2GB of RAM and 120GB of disk space for your data, a DVD DL burner for your discs, 14 or 15 inches SXGA for your eyes plus the Wifi A/B/G, TPM, Bluetooth goodies.
The graphical part allows you to choose between Intel and ATI (Radeon X1600 256MB RAM).

And last, but not least, the new F series laptops (pictured above), which succeed my current laptop, have great specifications compared to all of the others, and look like a mix between my current laptop and a n Apple laptop (I’ll let you guess which).
The Core 2 Duo finds yet another home in those with the T7700 versions @ 2.4GHz and 2GB of RAM, Blu-ray playing AND burning, Nvidia GeForce 8400GT (256MN VRAM), HDMI, WXGA resolution for the 15 inches monitor and 250GB in the SATA HDD…
In short, the F and A series are basically the closest equivalents to the the Macbook Pro series. The G and T series (previously covered here and here) are basically the equivalents of the normal Macbooks, and all the other models fill in the gaps between those two brands (I mentioned them to comparison because most tech enthusiasts can quickly relate to them).
