So, is the the “kid” most shows add to squeeze out one more season, or are they trying to spin-off into another show once Smallville calls it quits at the end of next year?

My guess is spin-off.

Either way, TV Jab reports that Supergirl is going to be added to the cast of the best live action version of the Man of Steel to hit the small screen next year. This final season, which Supergirl will be a part of at least half the episodes of, has a lot of wrapping up to do, as well as a lot of ground to cover.
